“Think beyond what you’d expect from IT. To succeed in today’s marketplace, you need to react quickly to changing market conditions and deliver new functionality to your clients, with less resources and lowers costs. The ability to reuse assets and integrate applications is key to flexibility and most assets reside on System z. This iphone z/OS modernization demo shows how a heritage COBOL application was transformed using an iphone interface, websphere Application Server, Web 2.0 and Web Services.” V2.0 This video has three demonstrations; (1) The first shows a legacy COBOL/CICS/VSAM application that uses Web 2.0 Google maps. This uses AT&T 3G and not WIFI and was faster than WIFI with .7 second response time between the System Z in Dallas Texas USA and Chicago, IL USA. (2) The second shows a legacy COBOL/CICS/VSAM application creates a pie chart for a mortgage application. (3) The third shows a legacy COBOL/IMS application uses Web 2.0 Google Maps. There were no changes to the legacy application and this continues to run a 3270 green screen interface. We created a front end program that calls the legacy application in 2 weeks using IBM Rational Developer for System Z (rdz) with EGL.. Contact IBM system Z software for more details.

I never thought mainframes could do this. When AT&T says your world delivered, WOW and is it fast over 3G. Mainframes are cool again. I did a Google search on IMS and CICS that that has been around long before I was born. How did they do this and in a few weeks like the video description says? This would take months or a year on Windows at my office, if it ever happened at all in this economy.
OMG!!! Did you see that the first demo is over 3G and it is freaking fast, like .7 seconds. I think I may switch to AT&T and get an IPhone. You have to watch this in HD it rocks. I thought mainframes were out of date but this smokes my windows at work and leaves it in flames with what this can do. Web 2.0 and web services and a mainframe with .7 response over just 3G. Wicked cool – nice video
Awesome, I never thought I would see IMS on an IPhone and then there is CICS and VSAM. Who would think mainframes would be cool. This is even better than the last version. Very cool dude.
